You’ve seen them. Determined yoginis marching proudly…their mats rolled up and strapped onto their bag or clutched to their bodies as if to say, “Don’t touch my mat!” Hmmmm…I carry my own fairly often because of my teaching gigs. Me noticing people noticing my mat. I suppose an electrician feels the same with his (or her!) tool belt strapped on…sprouting all sorts of odd looking devices that help keep electricity flowing through the veins of our condos and apartments. It’s something different…we want recognition. But that’s another issue for another post!
Perhaps the site of a yoga mat inspires some…and in others causes rage. And yet
it’s not my business, in any event, how others may or may not be reacting, right? Yes? Right, not my business. And on the subject of yoga mats, a good one can make a huge difference in the lives of yogis everywhere. Dudes and Dudettes!!! You don’t wanna buy one of those uber-cheap, shiny plastic mats with no density and no cush. Oh no!!!
Here some brands that won’t cost you an arm and a chakra and will do you proud and make your practice more enjoyable and prevent injury because they offer better stability:
Youphoria Yoga Mat – 1/4″ (6mm) High Density Memory Foam Yoga Mat/Fitness $35
Prosource Premium 1/2-Inch Extra Thick 71-Inch $21 (good for tender knees becuase of the thickness)
Aurorae Classic Yoga Mats – 1/4″ Thick, 72″ Long $35 (some of my students have purchased these and love them!)
Of course you can buy Jade mats or Manduka mats which are sort of the gold standard but come with a relatively higher price tag. Most studios sell these.
